Backup Footage on DMSS App

Wondering how to backup footage on DMSS to iOS and Android devices? Follow these steps and watch along with our video to find out how!

To backup footage on DMSS App, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open the DMSS App on your device
  2. Tap the “Play” Button on the recording unit you need footage from
  3. Select the camera that was covering the area from the Live Feed screens & tap “Playback”.
    • (Please note that footage backed up on an Android or iOS Device can’t exceed 30 minutes.If the required footage duration exceeds this, complete the process locally on the NVR/XVR unit using a suitable storage device, such as a USB pen drive)
  4. Use your finger to drag the Timeline to the time you want to start the backup from. You can ‘Pinch’ the timeline with your finger & thumb to zoom on the timeline for a more accurate start / end time
  5. Once you’ve found your start time, tap the scissors icon, then tap the “Start” Icon to start clipping your footage
  6. A red line will appear showing the beginning of the footage you wish to backup
  7. You can drag the timeline to the end time of the footage you want to save and then tap the “Stop” Icon
  8. Click “OK” to save this clipped footage
  9. Tap the “Back” Icon (<) on the top left of the screen

This will bring you back to the main screen. From here:

  1. Select “Me” to open your DMSS Profile
  2. Tap “Album” to open your saved files. This is where all your footage & screenshots are stored. Review the footage to ensure it backed up correctly
  3. You can tap “Back” again to go back & save the footage on your device to be shared via Email, WhatsApp, etc…
  4. Select each file you want to save and tap the “Save” Icon at the bottom of the screen to save the files to your device
  5. Delete any files no longer needed by selecting the “Bin” icon at the bottom of the screen

Enable Notifications on DMSS

Needing some guidance on how to enable notifications on DMSS? You’ve come to the right place! Follow this quick video on how to enable notifications for both Android and iOS devices for the DMSS App.

Please note that you may need to also enable DMSS notifications in your devices notifications settings menu.

To enable notifications, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the DMSS App
  2. Find the device you want to enable notifications on & tap the three dots (…)
  3. Tap “Device Details”
  4. Select “Multi-Channel Alarm Subscription”
  5. On this menu, tap on the slider to allow the below features to send notifications to your device
  6. Now choose a notification type from the list. For the example, we will be choosing “Intrusion Alarm” as we have set up Intrusion Zones on this NVR
  7. This menu will show all current cameras connected to the NVR. We want to choose the cameras that have intrusion zones set up
  8. We can select any cameras from the list or enable & disable all cameras by tapping “Select All” or “Cancel All”
  9. Once you’ve selected the Cameras you want to receive notifications from tap the “Back” icon (<)
  10. Tap “Save” at the bottom right on the screen

You have now enabled notifications for the DMSS App!

Enabling & Configuration of Auto Tracking

Looking for some help for enabling and configuration of auto tracking for a Dahua Hubble? Look no further!

Setting up auto tracking for DH-PSDW81642MP-H-A360-E9-D440 is a breeze when following along to the steps provided. This will include setting up presets, configuration of IVS rules, calibrating the PTZ & Panoramic Cameras for Auto Tracking, and finally enabling Auto Tracking & testing.

To enable smart plan, set IVS rules & presets and calibration & enable auto tracking of the PTZ, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to the camera and find the location you want to track targets from
  2. Navigate to the “Smart Plan” menu by clicking the “Settings” tab
  3. Click “Event” from the list along the left side of the screen & select “Smart Plan”
  4. Select the “IVS” Icon and click “Save”
  5. Now click on the “IVS” from the left hand side list

From here you can draw your rule, being either a Tripwire or an Intrusion Zone. We’ll demonstrate using an Intrusion Zone:

  1. Draw rule on the small preview screen. You can double click the preview screen to enlarge it & adjust any points you have set
  2. When happy with any adjustments, double click screen again to go back to preview screen
  3. You can set active periods for any rules set from this menu. We’ll keep ours active 247/7 for the demonstration
  4. These actions will trigger when target crosses / appears within the threshold set
  5. Set the direction of where targets trigger from. Either by entering / exiting the area, or both
  6. Enable “Smart Track” by clicking the check box
  7. Click Save when you are happy with your settings

To calibrate the panoramic and PTZ Cameras, please follow the steps below:

  1. Select “Smart Track” from the left hand menu
  2. Click the green “+” to add calibration point & adjust each point on each preview screen. So they are placed in the same areas of the live feed
  3. Select the save icon to save each calibration point
  4. You will need at least 4 calibration points for each of the four areas marked 1,2,3 & 4
  5. Click Area 2 & continue calibrating until all 4 areas have at least 4 calibration points

When you’re happy with your calibration, you’ll need to enable Alarm Track:

  1. Click Alarm Track Tab, select “Enable” check box & turn “Auto Track” on
  2. Set Track Time, Idle Time and PTZ Idle Position to whatever you see fit
  3. Ensure you click “Save” whenever you are done

How to set up preset positions for the PTZ:

  1. Click “PTZ Settings” from the left hand side menu and select “Preset” from the list that appears to the right of the preview window
  2. Select “+ Add” to add preset option. Name it, use the PTZ controls to position the PTZ in the scene you want to cover & click save
  3. You can click each saved preset to make sure the PTZ will orientate itself to the correct position for that preset

Mini TiOC PTZ Auto Tracking Setup

This blog post will demonstrate how to enable Auto Tracking on a Dahua DH-SD3E405DB-GNY-A-PV1 Mini TiOC PTZ Camera. Auto Tracking on this model only supports tracking of human targets, and does not track vehicular targets. We’ll show you how to set up presets, enable IVS, set up auto tracking, and utilize other available features.

Initial Setup Steps

  1. Login to the PTZ using Microsoft Edge via its IP Address
  2. We will need to set up at least one preset. Click the “Home” Icon and navigate to the PTZ Settings
  3. Add a preset if ones not enabled. Clicking each preset gives you a preview of the area that presets assigned to cover
  4. Click “Add Preset” and use the PTZ Controls to position the PTZ in the scene you want to capture
  5. Name each of your presets accordingly & click the save icon on any presets added to the PTZ

Now to enable auto tracking

  1. Click the “Home” icon, or close the window and click “AI”
  2. Click “+ Preset” and select the preset you want auto tracking enabled on
  3. Move the “IVS” slider on and click next
  4. Select “IVS” to open the Rule Config menu. This is where you will enable Auto Tracking. Choose the preset you want to work on from the dropdown menu
  5. Click “Add Rule” and select your rule.
    • In the video demonstration we are using an Intrusion Zone Rule. The PTZ Camera will track entry into this area
  6. Add a name to the rule if you wish
  7. By default the whole scene will be in the capture area, but you can delete it and draw out the area you wish to cover
  8. Place points by left clicking your mouse and link the last point to the first with a right click. You can adjust points as you see fit
  9. The Sensitivity slider is for how sensitive the detection is. Depending on the scene, you may need to engage in some trial and error
  10. Enable Auto Tracking lite & select your action

We will demonstrate enabling both Appear and Cross in our video

  1. Select the direction of where targets will be tracked from, either entering the area, exiting the area or both. In our video demonstration we’ll be setting this to both. So, the PTZ will track a target entering or leaving the area.
  2. Tracking Duration sets how long a target will be tracked for
    • There’s no point in selecting vehicles, as this PTZ will only track human targets
  3. Scrolling down you can set Post Record Time, Post Alarm, Audio Linkage & Warning Light
  4. Audio Linkage will play an audible warning throughout the PTZ speaker directed at the target being tracked. You can choose from a handful of preloaded audible alerts
  5. The Warning Light warns targets with a Red & Blue flashing LED array, warning them that they have been detected in the area
  6. Click “Apply” when you are happy with your settings

At this stage we would recommend rebooting the PTZ and test the area by walking through the Intrusion Zone. Making sure the Mini TiOC PTZ tracks a target, the LED Array flashes and any audible warnings set are sounding correctly.

Time & Date for DST on XVR / NVR Units

Wanting to set the date & time for DST (Daylight Saving Time) on a Dahua XVR / NVR Unit? Have a look at this quick guide for further information and a step by step guide!

Setting date and time on NVR / XVR:

  1. Open the main menu of the NVR / XVR you are working on
  2. Click “System” and the General Tab will open. Now click the “Date & Time” Tab
  3. Set your Time Zone from the Dropdown Menu, along with the display format you’d like it to be shown in
  4. Enable “Daylight Saving Time” by clicking the DST checkbox
  5. Select “Week” as the Type and set the Start Time to the Last Sunday in March at 01:00am
  6. Set the End Time for the Last Sunday in October at 02:00am
  7. Enable “NTP” by clicking the checkbox and set the Server Address as “time.windows.com”. You can use whichever NTP Server you are comfortable with
  8. Remember to click “Apply” to save these settings.

Now we will do the same on the DMSS App:

  1. Open the DMSS App
  2. Tap the 3 dots on the Recorder you are currently working on, then tap “Device Details”
  3. Scroll down the options until you see the “Time Zone” option
  4. Tap “Time Zone”, select your time zone, & enable DST by tapping the slider
  5. Set the Start & End Time of your DST. This will be identical to what you set on the NVR / XVR.
    • Start: Last Sunday March 01:00am
    • End: Last Sunday October 02:00am
  6. Tap “Save” in the top right hand corner and that’s it!

Your time will now update automatically when the clocks go forward and backward an hour throughout the year. You have sucessfully set the time & date for DST.

Configuring Dahua Access Points

Configuring Dahua Access Points is a breeze with this straightfoward video guide. Using the DH-WBC5-90AC & DH-WBC5-30AC Access Points, lean how to set up access points below.

In this video we will be using the Dahua Toolbox to see each device on the network. We will configure each Access Point (AP) individually as they have the same default IP address.

Configuring Dahua Access Points

  1. Open the Toolbox and run the Config Tool. There’s one Access Point sitting on the network at this stage, which will be set up as the main AP for Clients (CL) to connect to.
  2. The default IP for these AP’s is 192.168.1.36, and we’ll use Edge in Internet Explorer mode to connect to the AP using this IP address. Open Edge and enter the AP’s IP address into the search bar
  3. Create a memorable password for the AP. This passwords used for logging into the AP to change settings, etc. It’s not used for connecting devices to it
  4. Use that password to login and begin the config of the AP
  5. Set the mode to Access Point. You can name the AP to make it easy to find when pairing the Client end to create the Wireless Bridge
  6. Set your Encryption type and the password for Clients to use when connecting to the AP
  7. You can change the Output Power here, but for now I’m going to keep it on High Performance
  8. I want to give my AP a Static IP Address. Depending on your Network these settings may vary. You will probably have a different Gateway, IP Range, etc
  9. Here you can review the settings and apply them. The AP will log you out as it’s IP address has changed

I can see the AP IP Address has now changed in the Config Tool. I’ll now power the Client end of the Wireless Bridge and wait for it to appear on the Config Tool. It may take a few minutes to appear

Configuring Client End

  1. Connect to the CL end of the Wireless Bridge using Edge and the IP Address shown in the Config Tool
  2. Again, set a Password for the CL Device and login
  3. At this stage we will tell the Unit it will be in Client mode. We want to connect to the AP end of the Bridge. You can enter this manually or click the search icon to search for the AP
  4. Select the AP from the list and click OK. Input the password you created on the AP for any connecting devices
  5. We’ll give the CL a static IP Address close to the IP Address of the AP, so they’re easy to find in the future
  6. Again, the device will log you out as it’s IP Address has changed

You can go back to the Config Tool and see that both ends of the Wireless Bridge are now initialised. You can now login to both the AP and CL to check their settings if needs be.

Wanting to check if a remote device (an IP Camera) which is connected to the CL via its PoE out Port, is coming through correctly? Log into the device to see if you are able to see the image from the camera.

And it is! The wireless Bridges configured correctly.

    Enable Internet Explorer Mode on Edge

    Wanting a step by step guide on how to enable Internet Explorer mode on Edge for Dahua devices web portal? Have a look at this blog post, which shows exactly how enable Edge for configuration using the Dahua Config Tool.

    This will show you how to enable Internet Explorer mode on Microsoft Edge for configuring Dahua Devices when using the Dahua Config Tool. You can still use browsers such as Firefox or Google Chrome, but you may find they have limited functionality such as some menus don’t display correctly or there is no live video feed of a camera. This is because of a plugin that is unavailable to these browsers. This could change in the future, but for now if you are going to HTTP into a device we recommend using Internet Explorer or Edge in IE Mode!

    To Enable Internet Explorer Mode on Edge, please follow these steps:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge
    2. Click the three dots in the top right hand corner of the browser
    3. Navigate to “Settings”, then left click to open
    4. Find the “Default Browser” tab and click to open the options
    5. The drop down menu will likely be set to “Default” or “Don’t Allow”. Change this to “Allow”
    6. Close Edge to apply these settings

    Now whenever you are logging into a device via the Config Tool, the web portal will open in Internet Explorer Mode, allowing full functionality.

    Enable IVS Rules

    Needing some help to enable IVS rules on a Dahua XVR? This video is a step by step guide on how to enable and setup tripwire and intrusion IVS rules for detecting movement.

    1. Open the Dahua Toolbox and run the Config Tool. This can also be done locally on the Recorder the same way
    2. Select the Recorder you wish to work on and click “Web” to open the Web Portal on Edge
    3. Enter the Username and Password for the Recorder
    4. Navigate to the “Smart Detection” Menu and click “Parameters”
    5. Click the “IVS” tab to bring up the Configuration window

    From here you can add and delete IVS rules, such as Tripwire and Intrusion Zones.

    To add a Tripwire Intrusion Rule, follow these steps:

    1. Click the “+” symbol and enable the rule from the checkbox. Name the rule, then draw the rule on the video feed. Refer to the video for a visual demonstration
    2. For this demonstration we will set up a Tripwire Intrusion rule, which is a simple line that when crossed will notify the end user via the DMSS App
    3. You can set parameters for the rule such as it’s detection area from one direction, the opposite direction, or set it to detect movement from both sides
    4. Click “More” for additional options, such as allowing the Recorder to sound it’s Buzzer or send an Email when thresehold is crossed
    5. When your rule(s) have been set, click “Apply” and reboot the Recorder

    To set an Intrusion Zone, follow these steps:

    1. Click the “+” and enable the rule. Select the “Type” drop down menu and choose Intrusion
    2. Draw the rule on the video feed. You can set your Detection Threshold by left clicking the mouse on the area you want to cover, and right click the last point to the first
    3. You can again set the detection rules, post record time, schedule, etc
    4. When the Intrusion Zone has been set, click OK and reboot the Recorder

    Once the Recorder reboots it’s always best practice to always test the rules to make sure the detection thresholds are detecting the movement.

    Enable DHCP For Online Access

    This video is a step by step guide on how to enable DHCP. The steps are also below:

    1. Open the Dahua Toolbox and run the Config Tool. These settings can also be set locally on any recorder if not using the Config Tool
    2. Select the Recorder you wish to work on and click “Web” to open the Web Portal on Edge
    3. Login with your Username and Password
    4. Navigate to the Network Menu
    5. Open the TCP/IP Menu
    6. Click the Pencil Icon to Edit your NIC Settings
    7. Click DHCP to Enable it. Then click OK
    8. If DHCP is enabled on this screen, uncheck this box. Make sure you click Apply to save these settings

    Looking for Connection to the DMSS App? Follow these steps below:

    1. For Connection to the DMSS App, click the P2P Tab
    2. Click the Enable Slider and click Apply on the bottom right
    3. Scan the QR Code marked “Mobile Client” with your phones camera for a link to download the DMSS App
    4. Scan the QR Code marked “Device SN” on the DMSS App when adding the device to your app for remote viewing
    5. Click Apply and Reboot the Recorder
    6. Navigate back to the P2P Menu when the Recorder has rebooted, to check its status is now Online
