G8000 8TB Surveillance HDD

Product Description

G8000 8TB Surveillance HDD

Best-Fit Applications

  • Network video recorders (NVR)
  • Embedded surveillance DVRs (SDVR)
  • Hybrid surveillance DVRs
  • Surveillance DVRs

• 24/7 continuous-recording design

  • Surveillance HDDs are built to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with nearly continuous write activity to record video streams.

  • Their firmware and hardware are optimised for that workload — whereas standard desktop HDDs are typically designed for intermittent use (e.g. maybe 8–10 h/day).

• High workload rating (TB per year)

  • A critical spec is the workload rating — many surveillance drives are rated around 180 TB/year (or more) for sustained video recording.

  • By contrast, typical desktop HDDs are often rated for ~ 55 TB/year — far lower and not reliable under continuous video writes.

  • Some high-end surveillance drives (or “AI-ready” drives) push the limit even higher to support many cameras + advanced video analytics.

• Optimized for multiple video streams & sequential writes

  • Surveillance HDD firmware is tuned for sequential writing (large continuous data blocks), which matches how video data is recorded — rather than random small reads/writes which desktop OS workloads often produce.

  • Many drives support multiple camera streams simultaneously — important in multi-camera setups. For example, some are rated to support dozens (even up to 64) cameras.

• Enhanced reliability, durability & error handling

  • Surveillance drives often include vibration resistance / sensors (rotational-vibration sensors) to cope with multi-drive DVR/NVR systems where several disks run together.

  • Firmware may prioritise video-stream integrity over aggressive error-correction routines that might interrupt write streams (which desktop HDDs might do) — meaning fewer frame drops and more consistent recording.

  • Designed heat/power management, to avoid overheating under constant 24/7 operation.

• Suitable Form Factor & Interface for NVR / DVR systems

  • Most surveillance drives use 3.5-inch form factor and standard SATA (6 Gb/s) interface — compatible with common NVRs / DVRs / security recorders.

  • Capacities often range from a few TB up to large capacities (many TB) to store long recordings, especially with higher resolution cameras or many cameras.
